  • Dauphine, age 11, was a 10-year-old girl carrying produce when we met her on a dirt road outside the village of Rweteera. She had never been to school and could neither read nor write in her native language. She knew three words in English, “I want school,” and when she spoke them, Dauphine’s Promise was born. Her single mother lives by subsistence farming and cannot afford school fees. Dauphine was first placed in Primary 1 with 6-year-olds, but in 1 ½ years has risen to her proper grade level and scores near the top of her class. She is happy, healthy, and thriving.

  • Diana Kemigisa, age 12, dropped out in primary 6 and stayed home with her mother in Kigarama village. To support her dream of returning to school and affording school fees, Diana took to selling roasted maize by the roadside, often shedding tears as she would watch her classmates walking to school.Since returning to a conducive learning environment, she has excelled in her studies, is focused on becoming a veterinarian, and is enjoying school friendships.

  • Mercy Gaba, our youngest student at age 9, primary 4, lived with her grandfather in Kiko village. She loved school but lacked basic necessities. She attended school sporadically but missed out on tests and had no access to food, paper, pencils, or proper clothing. Since residing at school she is happy, loves drawing and her studies are going well.

  • Rosemary Kiiza, age 10, is in primary 1 and lives with her mother in nearby Kyangabukama village. After mortgaging a piece of land for a loan, her father, unable to repay, tragically took his own life, leaving the family destitute. To support Rosemary and her mother, we enrolled her as a day student, enabling her to spend time at home during this period of grief. Despite never having experienced formal education before, Rosemary has enthusiastically embraced the learning process, made friends, and is on a journey of self-discovery.

  • Ticia, age 12, lived alone with her single mother after her father passed. She had dropped out of school because her mother could not find funds to support her in school. Upon returning to school, Ticia has demonstrated a vibrant spirit and a great desire for education. She plans to become a doctor to help sick people worldwide. Her motto is ‘discipline plus hard work equals success.’

  • Claire, age 11, primary 5, was an excellent student before she dropped out due to a lack of school fees. She grew up living with her mother and not knowing her father. When she was four years old, her mother remarried and abandoned her to the care of her grandmother and a life of hardship. A difficult living environment missing the basic necessities has been replaced by a positive environment at Kasiisi school. Since returning to her studies, she has been motivated to become a nurse and make an impact in her local community. Claire is now thriving with her friends in her academic journey.

  • Elijah, our newest student and first boy, age 8, lives at home with his mom. He dropped out one year ago from Rweteera primary school because his mom couldn't afford school requirements, fees, uniforms, and books for him or his 3 brothers. He is exceedingly bright but spends his days doing very little as he lives in a remote village. A serious and determined boy, he deserves a chance at education and is excited and happy to begin his school term.
